The Blockchain Education Network (BEN) is a dynamic and proactive nonprofit community organization empowered by the blockchain leaders of the future: students and youths. These young people are creating blockchain clubs to serve their local communities. BEN connects these young leaders, who are committed to making change now for a better future.

While BEN connects these young leaders globally, the focus is first and foremost to make a local impact, to create positive change within local communities. Similar to the blockchain itself, the Blockchain Education Network is decentralized and encourages peer-to-peer interaction through local chapters. In other words, BEN is “local first.”

BEN currently has 67 chapters worldwide, spanning Canada, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Switzerland, Taiwain, Ukraine, UAE, United Kingdom, and United States. Many of these are blockchain-related clubs at universities.

This student network is drawn together for “sharing disruptive ideas and collaborating on global events.” Students are encouraged to join a local chapter or start their own chapter. In true decentralized fashion, BEN’s invitation for students to form new local chapters reads like this: “You Don’t Need Permission. Find a Friend and Go for It.”

BEN encourages student involvement by supporting events (such as partnership with the Exosphere Academy of Science and the Arts), encouraging hackathons, and by publishing a guidebook to help students host Bitcoin Airdrops on campus.

Through social media and publishing outlets like Medium, BEN takes a proactive approach to educating the public about blockchain technology and its potential impact. Even more significantly, BEN consistently encourages young people to attend global and regional blockchain events. In this way, BEN reminds young people that they already have a voice and an invitation to shape their local and global futures.

BEN’s published commentary on upcoming events is in-depth and educational in nature. Social media pre-event commentaries read like a prep and walk-through, helping students prepare in a way that will enrich their experiences. It is clear that the organization wants to facilitate and empower informed participation as widely as possible.

BEN also coordinates and informs student members about upcoming alumni presentations related to blockchain technology. The alumni connections energize this network for the future. BEN invites industry experts to give guidance and feedback to students, helping them to find their place in the future of blockchain and its impact on their local and global communities.
